Goals and Objectives
- Use the Internet and the PEPP Web Server to access and download earthquake
data.
- Organize and conduct a search in a database for information about earthquakes
using the Earthquake Hypocenter Catalogue.
- Analyze the frequency of earthquakes in your state and elsewhere both
qualitatively and quantitatively using the Gutenberg-Richter Law.
- Relate regional geologic structure to the seismic activity in your
region.
- Begin research on earthquake frequencies in space and time.
Teacher Note: You can use the PEPP MAPPER software for the activities
in this project, or you can do the activities by directly accessing the
PEPP Hypocenter Catalogue via the Internet.
